Recent decade was the expansion of information technology into automotive industry. Increase of Electronic Controls Units deployment allowed controlling almost every function of the
vehicle such as engine management, air-bag deployment and intelligent brake systems.
Fast growth of the wireless networks caused introductions of two more ideas: communication of vehicles with traffic related surroundings (V2I – Vehicle to Infrastructure) and communication of vehicles with other vehicles on the road (V2V – Vehicle to Vehicle). They are interdisciplinary programs joining transportation, electrical and automotive engineering with computer science.
